Mammoth (長毛像)

This weekend, I brought my son to Taipei, Taiwan to see mammoth (長毛像). What is mammoth?, How long have they lived? There are so many questions that a child can ask. These questions are very interesting for me. I never see a mammoth in my life time. I do not know how do they look like until, I saw a movie, "The Ice Age." I saw a big elephant, but I did not even know it calls.

Three weeks a go, my son Alan came back from school and he was saying let's go to see 長毛像. I could not even picture it in my mind. I was questioning myself, is that an elephant? Finally, when my husband David came back, I asked him what is 長毛像? He answered, it is an elephant. I asked him directly, what kind of elephant is that? David answered, it looks like the big elephant in the movie called "The Ice Age." Now, I could picture it myself.

The second question I asked, is that alive? David answered, of course not. It died out long time ago. Then, I told him, so it is like the dinosaurs in the museums. He said yes. I do not know why Alan has interest in this kind of animal. It is probably, three of his classmates went to see it, so that's why he got interest.

He was telling me to bring him to Taipei to see it. He was doing may research to find the answer like where is the museum, how much is the entrance and until how long it will be there? all these simple questions he knew how to answer them. He did a great job doing this kind of research.

The more he was saying, the more interest I got. I was doing my own research and I knew this animals are called mammoth in English. They were lived in Siberia. I did not know what do they eat, I just searched how do they look like. It is very truly they look like an elephant in the movie "The Ice Age."

I decided to go to Taipei and bring him to see the elephant. we were planning to go on October the 10th, Taiwanese Independence's Day", but Alan's test in coming after the holiday, so I changed the dates. We decided to go this weekend, October 18th. Alan was preparing for his tests. He studied very hard and he told me he did okay on his tests. If he worked very hard, he could go to Taipei, otherwise he cannot go.

My poor baby did a hard work, so he could go to see his mammoth after the test.
